What are
STIM Quilts?
Final wiring of the brain
occurs after birth and is governed by early experiences. This is
important for all babies, but is especially important for babies that
are premature or babies that are developmentally delayed.
Lack of visual stimulation of the brain through the eyes in the critical
period of one to six months leaves areas of the brain underdeveloped.
Babies are attracted to contrasts in color, geometric shapes and faces.
This is why our infant "stim quilts" are usually made of fabrics colored
black, white and red.
One of our
monthly meetings each year is dedicated to making and assembling these
quilts. But individual guild members help make them all year long. We
make roughly 20 quilts per year and donate them to the Early
Intervention Program in Oak Harbor, Ohio. |
