September Newsletter 2006
Ohio Star Quilters Quild NQA # 131

Choa, my fellow quilters,

My husband and I have just returned from a two week Mediterranean cruise and thought I'd better get cracking on the quild's newsletter. Does it seem odd to anyone else that the September newsletter should be coming to you at the end of October?
The Mystery trip was a great success. For those who didn't or couldn't go you missed an historic event. We visited SIX quilt shops( count them 6 ) and still had time for lunch and ice cream!!!
We started out at the Black Swamp on Woodville Rd. Since it was National Quilt Pink Day we were treated to pink cookies and punch as well as a very nice selection of fabrics and books. It was a chore to get everyone back on the road but from there we traveled north into Michigan up I 75.
Our next stop was Sew Fun Fabrics in Wyandotte, MI. It is housed in a quaint house with a beautiful garden. The owner, Deb is a decorater as well as a quilter and her sister is a master gardener who plans and plants the grounds and window boxes each year. We were given goodie bags with suckers and a fat quarter too!
Just a few blocks away was the third shop, Sew What in South Gate, MI. Here several of our group won door prizes. There was a great selection of unusual buttons in this shop as well as fabrics.
Just a few more miles south was Pieceful Traditions in Trenton, MI. It is a brand new shop. There we all got a fat quarter and a chance to win a grand opening prize. ( I haven't heard if any of us won it). From here we headed for a lunch break which everyone except PhyllisCoats enjoyed. Phyllis had a dental emergency and could barely chew cottage cheese. Do you really chew cottage cheese?
Heading on south to Monroe, MI our fifth shop was Sadie's Sewing Shoppe and Ice Cream Parlor. What a great combination! It is a small shop and easy to miss but right off I 75 at exit 15. Needless to say, we all ate ice cream, except Phyllis. Poor thing couldn't tolerate the cold on her tooth.
Our last stop was Sonflower Quilts and Gifts in Sylvania,OH. on Slyvania Ave. What a delight. We were running a little late and called ahead to see if they would remain open for us. Obviousally, they did. And, I believe, they were glad they did. So were we. So...I to recap, 6 shops, lunch, ice cream and we were home by 6 ish. Not a bad day. Try to make the next Mystery trip and you can live the adventure! Thanks to Connie Starnes' mother and aunt for providing us with Ohio Star antenna flags to identify the caravan. Of course Beth lost hers in the IGA parking lot where we met.

Those of you who plan to do the Mystery Two Color Quilt workshop February 10 here are the fabric requirements: Crib/lap 46 1/2" x 59 1/4" background= 2 1/2 yds
alternate color= 2 1/4 yds

Our next meeting we will have the drawing for our beautiful quilt. Thanks to everyone for selling the raffle tickets, manning the booths and to Bonnie Legg who was relentless in the pursuit of greater ticket sales. Good luck to all the ticket holders because I think I've got the lucky nimber!

Paul Dumminger will be presenting the meeeting program . Tips on photograghing your quilts. We also will be adding another stitch to the Christmas stocking. The stitch will be taught by Pat Jones.
The members of the block exchange should have Mary Willson's block, Tessellating Stars, completed.

Hostesses for October are Barb Hanney, Hazel Kohlbarger, Gizella Lukac and Connie Starnes.

Many of us enjoyed Janet Lockhart's Pretzel Salad at the last meeting and here is the recipe:

Pretzel Salad

1 stick margarine
1/2 C. sugar
1 C. pretzels (put pretzels between two pieces of waxed paper and crunch w/ rolling pin)

Melt margerine in microwave. Mix sugar and pretzels with melted margerine and spread on cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Take out of the oven and mix while hot with spoon on the cookie sheet until crumbly. Cool and place in plastic bag and store in refrigerator until ready to use.

Mix in mixer
8 oz. cream cheese
1/3 C. sugar
8 oz. drained cruched pineapple
Add
1 sm container of Cool Whip and
Pretzel mixture

Enjoy!

See you October 25th. Go Bucks!
