The
November meeting is the 19th; that is the third
Wednesday…one week early. Bring lots of $$$ for the
Chinese Auction!! Happy Thanksgiving!!
The
October meeting began with a lovely and informative program on
Redwork by Gretchen Schultz from The Quilt Foundry. She accompanied
her talk with dozens of antique and contemporary redwork quilts.
Gretchen left us with 15% off coupons for The Quilt Foundry and
information about a Quilt Show at All Saints Lutheran Church, 5445
Heatherdowns Blvd. , Toledo , on November 7th and 8th
from 9:00-3:00.
I was
quite excited to see six purses/bags completed from the ‘It’s A
Wrap’ workshop we had on October 18th. We had a
wonderful, fun-filled day. We ate heartily and shared some
well-deserved laughter.
We pulled
the winning ticket for the raffle quilt. The winner was David Nahm
from Fremont
and he does remember buying the tickets!! He was very excited when
I talked to him on the phone and I will be delivering his quilt in
the next week. At the November meeting, Barb Hanny will have the
final totals for the money raised on the raffle quilt.
Monday,
November 10th is the deadline for getting your “Chinese
Auction” items to the fundraising members for the November meeting.
The items can be taken to the library in
Port Clinton on
Monday mornings or given to any fundraiser members.
The
fundraising committee has planned a “Chinese Auction” for us at the
November 19th meeting. Tickets will be for sale for 20
cents. You will go around the room looking at the items and putting
your tickets in the basket by the item you would like to win/buy.
At the end of the night, the tickets will be drawn and, hopefully,
we will all go home with something we can’t live without. They want
you to clean out your sewing rooms and bring in anything quilt
related: books, patterns, fabric, notions, even quilts, or UFO’s,
etc. Then at the November meeting, we will bid on the items with all
the proceeds going to the Guild. Sounds like a really good time so
get cleaning and remember; your trash may be some else’s
treasure!!!!
Also at
the November meeting we will be taking names of those interested in
being on a two year
Raffle Quilt Committee. We had some problems this year with members
having to “carry over” the responsibility for the raffle quilt and
have decided this committee needs a two-year commitment. So, if you
are interested in helping the guild with the making of a raffle
quilt for the next quilt show in 2010, then sign-up in November.
The
Christmas dinner
will be at the CIC Club. It will be held on December 10th
at 6:00pm and the cost will be $20.38 all-inclusive. This money must
be paid by the November 19th meeting!!!! The special
events committee will be collecting new hats and gloves for the
Holiday Bureau and has asked everyone to bring a wrapped ornament
that is less than $5. Maps to the CIC were passed out and will be
available at the November meeting also.
So far 39 have signed to go and 22 have paid.
Put
Saturday, February 28th on your calendars now!! We have
Penny Haren, a nationally known quilt maker and author coming for an
all day workshop. You will be required to have Penny ’s book,
Pieced Appliqué, one of the rulers (there are four sizes), and
purchase a class kit. The kit includes material to make 3-4 blocks,
all the templates from her book, freezer paper, and a pattern to
complete a table
runner with the blocks made during the workshop. She will
take up to 50 students and our guild will have first dibs at the
spaces. Then, we can open the additional spaces up to friends and
other quilt guilds. Penny has three books coming out with this new
technique. It uses very simple pieced blocks as the base and then
you can either appliqué, by machine or by hand, additional pieces to
create absolutely stunning blocks. Her first book has 25 blocks
using this method and her second book will be out in January. I
will have her first book with me at the November meeting for those
of you who missed seeing it in October.
