The April
meeting was very productive. We began by making the parts for Stim
Quilts and several tops were finished and ready for the quilting to be
done. Bonnie has delivered 12 quilts to the Early Intervention
Program at Riverview. The May meeting will be Wednesday, May 27. The
program will be by
Jennifer McCann who will also be doing some workshops that week
for our members.
Speaking of
quilts, it was noticed that our own guild quilt does not have a label
on it. Jo Coon volunteered to make one and Charlotte McNerney will get
her all the info for it.
The roster
book will be out in May and we still need some people on the
fundraising committee. This guild needs EACH and EVERY member to do
her share. Please email any changes for the roster book to me at
kahirt@yahoo.com
by this weekend.
If you have
not paid your dues, please take care of that at the May meeting. Dues
are $30.00.
The (last
years) fundraising committees Grandmother’s Garden block quilt will be
raffled off at the August meeting. In May, we will get the raffle
tickets to sell and need to sell as many as possible.
Committee
budget requests were received and a budget for the 2009-2010 year will
be voted on by the members in May.
The new
’09-’10 challenge will be “Symphony in Stitches” to go along with the
theme of the quilt show for next year. The parameters are as follows:
-
The piece
must be quilted.
-
The
minimum size must have a perimeter of at least 96 inches.
-
Must
include a repetitious element.
Must contain
some black.
Pat Jones
has volunteered to be the guild contact person for the NQA.
The
workshop committee has put together a workshop to help work on the
raffle quilt for next year and this will be on July 18th.
Peggy
Horgan has asked Jennifer McCann to hold some workshops for our guild
in two weeks in conjunction with the May meeting.
Jennifer McCann will be presenting two workshops
at the end of the month to our guild members. Let me know by
Thursday, May 21
if you will be attending one or both workshops, so Jennifer will have
a count for having patterns printed. This is the first time these
classes are being taught--she is presenting them in June at NQA, and
Jennifer has agreed to let our Guild alone preview these classes for
the new quilts she has created. The flower quilts are stunning
(pictures attached)!
The
workshops will be held from 9:00 am until approximately
4:00 pm each of the two days at Peace
Lutheran Church . Please bring your lunch and drink(s). Feel free to
bring a guest, too, if you'd like for the workshop. If attending both
workshops, your sewing equipment will be secured in the Church
overnight.
Jennifer
is the guest speaker for the Guild meeting that
Wednesday evening also, and will be
giving hints and tips on
paper piecing. She'll be passing out patterns for
fantastic paper-pieced cubes ($1), and giving a trunk show on her
paper-pieced creations.
