March Anniversaries

3/3    De Masing

3/20  Polly Stuckman

3/21  Janet Lockhart

The March meeting will be held on Thursday, March 26 @ 6:00 pm.

Note the day and time change.  The Special Events committee sent info and I quote “The meeting will be a potluck with the members bringing fingerfood or appetizers.  No silverware will be allowed to be used to eat.  Serving spoons will be allowed.  Please wear green or face the consequences.  The fun will begin at 6 pm instead of 7 pm.”  Sounds like a threat to me (and a lot of fun)!!!!!

Last month, we had election of officers.  Our new Vice President is Polly Stuckman and our new Secretary is Sandy Sedlmeier.  We also signed up for committees and hostesses for the next year, so if you have not had the opportunity yet, please get signed up ASAP.  This guild needs EACH and EVERY member to do her share.  We are asking that you only sign up for one committee until all have had a chance to get their name on the sign-up sheets.  If you have not paid your dues, please take care of that at the March meeting. Dues are $30.00.

We had a wonderful program led by the fundraising committee.  We learned how make cathedral windows, yo yo’s, and do English paper piecing.  They have asked every member to make an English paper pieced Grandmother’s Garden block (they are supplying the background, the flower center, and fabric for the leaves).  They will piece the blocks together and have the quilt for sale at the next quilt show.

We also voted to keep the website and to redo the guild pamphlet.  Block exchange blocks were passed out by Betty Schlect and Penny Solem, with instructions to complete Betty’s first if you could not get both done.

Since the organization “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” no longer exists, we decided to give their portion of the proceeds from the raffle quilt (2008) to Peace Lutheran Church .

The nominations committee has asked that two addenda be considered for the bylaws.  These will be voted on at the March meeting.

Addendum 1

The treasurer along with the other officers of the Ohio Star Quilters Guild shall prepare and present a budget to guild members on a yearly basis.  The budget shall be presented to guild members for their approval at the May meeting.

Addendum 2

An audit of the treasurer’s books be conducted two months prior to the election of a Treasurer in the even numbered years.

The audit will be a function of the By Laws/Nominating Committee.

The audit shall be conducted by a committee of at least two guild members, none of who are current officers of the guild.  The committee will be comprised of guild members who have volunteered or been chosen by the guild at least three months prior to the election of treasurer in the even numbered years.

Hire an outside party to conduct the audit.

We are also attempting to update the Roster book for the new year and need to know of any changes to names, addresses, phone #’s, email addresses, birthdays or anniversaries.  Please email any changes to me at kahirt@yahoo.com .

On Saturday, February 28th we had a wonderful workshop led by Penny Haren.  What a fireball she is!!!  She began a little before 10 am and never stopped until we saw her driving out of the parking lot!!!  Penny showed us four foundation blocks, four patch, nine patch, pinwheel, and a square in a square, with her the tricks for making them perfect every time.  Then we cut the appliqués and the magic began.  Everyone’s blocks looked fantastic!!  Penny had the quilts and blocks available for us to look at from her second book, and the blocks from her third book.  All attendees have asked that we book her for another workshop when her new books come out.

Email from Penny Haren: I had so much fun this weekend.  You gals were amazing!  What a treat.  I have attached the placemat pattern that I showed you.  Feel free to run copies or e-mail it to your guild!  Enjoy.  Penny

You will find the pattern attached or you can get one from me at the March meeting.

There are no hostesses for the month of March.  Bring a finger food or appetizer to share that can be eaten with only the hands…..no silverware!!!

Upcoming Dates for your calendar:

April 22-25, 2009 - AQS Quilt Show and Contest, Paducah , KY

Keep Stitchin’!!
