Button, button who's got the button? Sue Smith, our February
speaker
certainly has to have it. She brought along her Great Grandmother,
Rebecca Hammond Cheeseborrow's (of the Ponds-Cheeseborrows) button
charm
string. Rebecca started collecting buttons around 1868 at age 9
and
strung them together until she had 9,999 buttons. The story goes
when
she placed the 10,000th button on the string she would meet the man she
would marry. All sorts of materials from rubber, horn, leather, bone,
coins and, yes, chicken skin to the more exotic jade, Venitian
glass,ocean
shells and Wedgewood pottery made up this collection. It remains
intact after 150+ years in the capable hands of her Gr. Granddaughter.
The Special Events Committee invite all to our 25th Anniversary Party
on Tuesday, March 27th at 6:30. It will be a PotLuck so you know
we
will be eating well! Besides partying, we will have a little
business to
conduct. The Nominating Committee has presented the slate for the
two
offices being vacated in March. Penny Groscost has been nominated
for
Vice President and Cathy Dix accepted the nomination for Secretary.(
Gosh, I hope I spelled that right).
Our March meeting brings to a close the Silver Challenge. It is
your
last chance to receive the lovely silver bracelet awarded to those who
have completed the challenge. Even one of the "snow birds" turned
in a
project ! Some people are easily persuaded by the lure of jewelry.
The Workshop Committee would like to thank all those who
participated
in the Mystery Workshop. There were 20 participants . I was
delighted
to see so many completed tops displayed at the February meeting.
We
have a good start for our Quilt Show 2008 !
Up coming events:
Shop hop bus tour April 10th...Contact the Nautical Needle or Sandy
Erwin for information.
Tour of guild members' quilting spaces Saturday, April 21st...The
Workshop Committee will need a head count for this event. The tour
will
start in the morning and last until about 4 PM. Once again, food
is
involved, but the Committee will be in charge of that since you all so
generously voted to give us money for this event. We will meet in
a
central location and carpool to the various stops. There is no
cost involved
with this activity. The tour last year was very successful and
lots of
fun so I hope many of you will join us this year. You will be able
to
sign up at the March party or contact me at 419-898-6100 or email
emmadacl@cros.net.

different from
