Dear Quilting Friends,
It's June and that means
it is my turn to get out the guild's newsletter.
Since I was inadvertently
left off the email list, I did not get the newsletter that Pat sent
out. You will forgive me for any duplications.
We welcome back our Snow
Birds, Janet Lockhart and Jo Coon. We missed you over the long winter
and non-existent spring. We are also glad Stefanie Plymale will be
with us a little longer, but I am sure, she would rather have her
house sold and be off to Perrysburg. (If anyone has a St. Joseph she
can bury, she would love to borrow him.)
What a productive evening
we had working on the Stim quilts. Why, we even had our visitors
toiling away! Bonnie Legg and Donna DiCarlo are great organizers and
coaches and, as a result, much was accomplished. As a reward for our
hard work, we were treated to delicious desserts. Pat Mensing's Trifle
made a big impression and now I know why. It was spiked with Kahlua! I
am enclosing the recipe at the end of the newsletter.
Bonnie Legg is almost
back to" midseason form" following coronary bypass surgery. You would
never know looking at her what a close call she had. Meanwhile, Sharon
Knoop has been "benched" and on "injured reserve" after a mishap with
a curb. She fractured a bone in her foot and will be in a soft cast
for 6 weeks. She assures me she will have her "game face "on for our
June 28th meeting. Sharon will be showing us how to make three
DIFFERENT folded flowers and leaves. You should have received the
pattern for these.
To participate, you will
need to come with pattern pieces prepared as instructed on the
pattern, scissors, thread to match material, needle and thimble. To
clarify the instructions: Prepare 3 DIFFERENT circles of two colored
fabric and 3 sets of leaves prepared the same way you did the circles.
The leaves may have the same fabric on both sides or not...Your call.
If you need further clarification or did not get the pattern, contact
Sharon at 419-898-1276.
The Appliqué Mini Class
is being repeated this year and there are 7 participants. Pat Mensing,
the organizer, has taken pity on these folks and has enlarged the
blocks from 6" to 10" for this new class. The pattern in June will be
Rose Wreath and Carol Hofacker will teach needle turn using freezer
paper on top method. Have fun ladies.
There has been some
interest shown in learning Crazy Quilt stitches. One way to accomplish
this learning would be to set aside some time each meeting to learn
one of the stitches. Put on your thinking caps and we will discuss
this at the next Guild meeting.
Also, to any new member
who wishes to join a committee, just let Pat Mensing or me know.
The 2006 Quilt Show
Committee will be meeting at Peace Lutheran Church June 20th at7PM
The registration forms
were distributed at the last meeting. If you need a form contact
Charlotte McNerney, Sue Haering or Mary Hetrick. You will need 2
copies of the form for each quilt entered in the show. It is not too
late to reserve a time to have your quilts appraised. Contact Sue
Haering for information 419-798-4619.
With the new photo of the
raffle quilt and the fact that it has been appraised for $3200, the
tickets can almost sell themselves! Please help promote the show
(July21-22) as you continue to sell the raffle tickets. If you need
more tickets or a photo of the quilt contact Bonnie Legg 419-743-6364.
Don't forget about the
Silver Anniversary Challenge. Any questions about that one contact
Jackie Zeigler, Barb Hanny or Cathi Dix.
Participating in the
monthly block exchange are Pat Jones, Connie Starnes, De Masing, Penny
Groscost, Mary Willson, Carol Hofacker, Pat Mensing, Sandy Erwin,
Jackie Hopfinger, Mary Widmer and Susan Koblin. If you want to join
the group you are welcome. Each month we will make one block for one
of the group members. That person provides the pattern, directions and
may or may not provide the material.(as in the case of a scrap block).
It is a committment but you are guaranteed 12 blocks of your choosing.
All participants should come to the June meeting prepared to be the
first name choosen. Also, it would be appropriate to consult the group
if you are planning on anything that requires more advanced techniques
to be assured that your project can be accomplished.
The new Guild handbooks
are printed. For those who have not received one, they will be
available at the next meeting along with your membership card. Jan
Foard and Stefanie Plymale were accidentally omitted. Below is their
