If you missed the last two meetings….you missed a lot!!

In August we had a wonderful guest speaker, Barbara Stover, who shared her embellished quilts. After quilting her quilts, she heavily beads them, applying, sometimes, thousands of beads on a single quilt, by hand. Most of us are done when the quilting is done…Barbara sees a quilted quilt as a fresh canvass on which to begin her beading magic.  Her beaded work was fantastic and has inspired some of us to go bead shopping!!!

In September, our guest speaker was Sandy Laipply from Bucyrus, OH.  Her artwork has been featured in many magazines and on many TV shows.  She amazed us with her watercolor paintings and many other craft techniques.  Sandy is truly a talented and gifted artist.  She helped us create a beautiful faux (no sew) quilted picture frame that really could have many possible uses.  What a great way of using up some of those scraps that seems to accumulate in our fabric stashes!!

Also in September, we went on a Mystery Trip visiting 2 quilt shops, a wonderful bakery, yarn store, and saw many of the quilt barns of Miami County, OH.  Fun was had by all!!!

In September some of us also attended a workshop led by Jennifer McCann on creating the bargello figure 8.  We sure had a lot of fun and even learned a few things!!  Jennifer will be joining us again in December on Wed the 9th and Thursday the 10th for a workshop on the fractured flower technique.

In August we drew the winner of the fundraiser raffle quilt.  The winner was our own Carol Swope.  The quilt came to her less than a week after the loss of her husband, and was especially meaningful to her.  Carol, we hope whenever you need a hug, that you wrap yourself in the quilt and think about all the hands of your friends (who love you so much) that worked on it, reaching out to you.

A big thank you needs to go out to Jo Coon.  Jo made a label for our guild quilt and I will have it stitched on by the next meeting.

The new ’09-’10 challenge will be “Symphony in Stitches” to go along with the theme of the quilt show for next year.  The parameters are as follows:

  1. The piece must be quilted.
  2. The minimum size must have a perimeter of at least 96 inches.
  3. Must include a repetitious element.
  4. Must contain some black.

We have had a few ladies complete the challenge…..let’s ALL try to complete the challenge so we will have many more quilts to put in the quilt show next year!!!!

Brenda Hollensen donated the wonderful quilt game she made for the last anniversary party to the guild.  Thanks Brenda!!  If anyone would like to borrow it, it currently resides at my house, so just contact me.

Just a reminder for all the shadows for the quilt show:  Your presence is needed at all the quilt show meetings. Please, as the quilt show chair for 2012, I need you all to be at the meetings so we will all know what we are expected to do and how to do it for the 2012 quilt show.

Mary Wilson collected her snowman blocks and Lorie Segaard passed out her BOM.  Lorie’s is a line of flying geese and she will collect them at the October meeting.  Sue Koblin will be passing hers out at the October meeting.  Here is the schedule for the rest of the year.

December- Phyllis Nuber

February- Sandy Erwin

March- Polly Stuckman

I know many of you are very excited about your blocks; however, we need to wait until your month comes before you pass out your blocks.  Many of us were overwhelmed when we suddenly had four blocks handed to us in the same month.  It is hard enough for some of us to keep track of one block for one month….and impossible to keep track of multiple blocks for multiple months.  So, please refrain from “line jumping” by passing out your blocks early or I will have to have you removed from the park!!!  Security!!!!!
