- How did you get started in
quilting?
My mother spent
my whole childhood working on a pair of twin Grandmother’s Flower Garden
quilts. (Pieced by hand.) Only in the last five years have I really
started seriously quilting on my own.
- What accomplishments are you
most proud of?
The quilt
guild has given me the confidence and inspiration to go beyond
conventional quilt patterns to “textile art”. I have been surprised by
the depth of creativity I have found within myself.
- Have you ever put one of your
quilted pieces in a quilt show?
No
- Finish these sentences:
- I still can’t get the hang
of . . .
Mitered
corners drive me nuts! I’m getting slightly better but I am still
not satisfied.
- The biggest enemy of
creativity is . .
Time! There
always seems to be some other chore or obligation which takes me away
from my quilting.
- What was your worst quilting
disaster?
The paper
pieced Mariner’s Compass. I did a workshop last year. It still sits
there on my wall, mocking me.
- Which quilter’s work do you
most admire and why?
I don’t know
enough about well-know quilters to have an opinion.
- What creative endeavor do you
plan to learn next?
I would like to
learn basket weaving and willow furniture construction. I live on a farm
with marsh lands and have the raw materials in my own backyard.
- What advice would you give to
someone starting out in quilting?
Find an
experienced quilter (or guild) to mentor you. You will learn all sorts
of short cuts and techniques to make life simpler and give you lots of
ideas.
