Carol Hofacker

  1. How did you get started in quilting?

My sister-in-law showed how to quilt.  That was around 1977.

  1. What accomplishments are you most proud of?

My appliqué.

  1. Have you ever put one of your quilted pieces in a quilt show?

Normally I shied away from showing.  But yes, a couple of shows in Ohio and Michigan.  I received an “Honorable Mention” for one of my silhouettes  I’ve received a Second Place (big ribbon) for my appliqué.

  1. Finish these sentences:
    • I still can’t get the hang of . . .

Quilting – hand or machine.  I have a big stack of quilt tops waiting to be quilted.

    • The biggest enemy of creativity is . .

Time and Husbands!

  1. What was your worst quilting disaster?

A whole boxful – projects started and paused and as time goes by I no longer like the patterns or fabrics so I just never finish them.

  1. Which quilter’s work do you most admire and why?

Pat Andreata – she discovered the plastic that is used in a certain type of appliqué.

  1. What creative endeavor do you plan to learn next?

Needlepunch and learn how to embellish quilted items.

  1. What advice would you give to someone starting out in quilting?

Don’t buy a bunch of fabric.  Purchase just enough (maybe a bit more) to finish 1-2 projects at a time.  Your preferences for patterns, color and fabric changes over time.  I was told this but I didn’t listen.  And now I look at some of my fabric and ask “Why did I buy this?”
