Charlotte McNerney

January 2008

  1. How did you get started in quilting?

I found some quilt blocks in my parents attic and thought “why can’t I make a quilt?”  So I just sewed them all together.  It was comfortable to curl up when taking a nap.

  1. What accomplishments are you most proud of?

Three children

Married 43 years

Having the gift of perseverance

  1. Have you ever put one of your quilted pieces in a quilt show?

Yes – I won a Blue Ribbon at Kaleidoscope about 2 years ago!

  1. Finish these sentences:
    • I still can’t get the hang of . .

Nice satin stitches

    • The biggest enemy of creativity is . .

myself

  1. What was your worst quilting disaster?

No glaring disasters – None that I am aware of – None that have bothered me.

  1. Which quilter’s work do you most admire and why?

Karen McTavish – she is a long arm quilter.  She invented the Long Arm Quilting work and trapunto.  Her work absolutely fascinates me.

  1. What creative endeavor do you plan to learn next?

I want to do everything.  I want to “free up” my artistic side.  I want to do more contemporary large quilts.  I want to do some fabric art and embellishments.

  1. What advice would you give to someone starting out in quilting?

Enjoy quilting.  Don’t get caught up in the “have to”.  Slow down and enjoy the process.  I have made some wonderful friends through quilting.  I wouldn’t give quilting up for the world  and by the way I am “crazy about chocolate”.
