Mary Adams
- How did you get started in
quilting?
I got started because my daughter is so
involved with quilting. It is one of those “mother/daughter” things.
(Mary’s daughter, Beth Hayes, is the Editor of “McCall’s Quick Quilts”.
Check out “Letter from the Editor” in the May 2007 issue and read about
our very own Mary Adams)
- What accomplishments are you
most proud of?
About two years ago I received the Judge’s
Choice Award at the Kaleidoscope Quilt Show. (This was a quilt Mary
made after her stroke. Her accompanying description gave details
of her newly learned techniques that enabled her to sew despite the
challenges the stroke left).
- Have you ever put one of your
quilted pieces in a quilt show?
I have had pieces in the Pemberville Quilt
Show and Kaleidoscope Quilt Show. I’ve gotten some ribbons and a first
place along the way.
- Finish these sentences:
- I still can’t get the hang
of . .
Trapunto – I don’t know - it just never sunk
in.
- The biggest enemy of
creativity is . . .
** Having a stroke . . . although I think I am more creative now
because of the stroke I had.
** Following every rule as though it were “gospel” – you know following
the pattern exactly the way it tells you to do something! Think up
things yourself!!!!
- What was your worst quilting
disaster?
My Sunbonnet Sue quilt was a disaster. All
the Sunbonnet Sue’s were leaning forward too far. I thought it was cute
but my daughter said they were supposed to be standing up straight! I
still think it is cute!
- Which quilter’s work do you
most admire and why?
I can’t say I admire any one quilter over
another. I admire various works rather than various
quilters.
- What creative endeavor do you
plan to learn next?
I want to have more variety of patterns
that I can accomplish with one hand – that makes it interesting you
know.
- What advice would you give to
someone starting out in quilting?
Don’t take it all that seriously. Have Fun!
! When I first started quilting I’d make a mistake and the first thing
I’d do was cry. Well, no more of that! |
