Virginia Oglesbee
- How did you get started in
quilting?
Kay Hofacker had a quit shop in Port
Clinton (Acorn Shop). I took some classes from her and later joined the
guild.
- What accomplishments are you
most proud of?
“I don’t have any” says Virginia. I am
interested in every aspect of quilting. I enjoy the “process”.
- Have you ever put one of your
quilted pieces in a quilt show?
I have just put my work in our local guild
quilt show. I would like to enter a judged show sometime.
- Finish these sentences:
- I still can’t get the hang
of . .
Making sharp points on hand appliqué.
- The biggest enemy of
creativity is . .
Procrastination
- What was your worst
quilting disaster?
My first attempt at quilting was as a
child. I cut out pieces for a “Drunkard’s Path” quilt using the old
cardboard patterns. Well . . . let’s just say I never finished it!
- Which quilter’s work do you
most admire and why?
Caryl Bryer Fallert – she does it all!!!!
Designs – hand dies fabric – hand and machine quilts. Check out her
website:
www.bryerpatch.com
- What creative endeavor do you
plan to learn next?
It is not really creative – I am trying to
organize my sewing room, quilt books, and fabric. I must have over 200
quilting books (Okay – you now know where to
look for a book on something specific – as Virginia probably has it!)
And I’d like to finish that “pile of stuff
to quilt”. (Hey, at least she said “pile” and
not “mountain” of stuff, which I suspect many of us would have to use).
- What advice would you give to
someone starting out in quilting?
Learn as much as you possibly can – take
classes – read books – watch videos – go to quilt shows – join a guild.
Don’t be afraid to try something new. |
