We had a wonderful trunk show and fantastic program on machine quilting by Patsy Thompson. WOW!! Her quilts were phenomenal. I was impressed with the first one she showed us…after seeing 15-20, I am really excited about trying some new machine quilting techniques and how about all those threads. One thing we learned, that I don’t know anyone knew before, is that you can wind perle cotton, size 12, around an empty cone and use it as a top thread with no problems at all. (That came from Patsy…I’m quite sure I will have many problems when I give it a try.) Patsy graciously gave a DVD set to the guild. I chose Fast and Free, Vol. 3, a two DVD set with over 4 hours of quilting instruction on it. Some chapters include, Thread Fun, Hyperquilting Background Fill Designs, How to Free Motion Quilt a Large Quilt on a HDSM, What do I Quilt and Where?, (and my favorite) What the Heck?
The Guild Christmas Dinner was held on December 2 at 6:30 at the Catawba Island Club. It was a wonderful dinner beside the big fireplace with even more festive games and merriment after!
The next two meetings will be on Thursdays because they fall during Lent. The February and March meetings will both be on Thursday the 25th of each month.
The fundraiser committee reminded all in attendance, to finish selling the raffle tickets by the next meeting. The drawing for all the dinners will be held that night, so bring in all tickets sold and money to turn in. The gift certificate for The Garden can be used at The Islander Grille on Sand Rd.
The ’09-’10 challenge is “Symphony in Stitches” to go along with the theme of the quilt show this year. The parameters are as follows:
Sue H showed her challenge quilt. It was a runner she had given to another member who informed her it fit the criteria! Check what you are currently working on, there may be a challenge quilt in your stack of UFO’s!!! We only have a few more months to finish, so get stitchin’!!
I collected by BOM and Pat J passed out hers. Here is the schedule for the rest of the year.
January- Pat J
February- Sandy E
March- Polly S
April- Diane B
May- Penny S
June- Carol S
July- Janet L
August- Peggy H
The guild is making a thank you quilt for Barb H. We have been asked to provide a 4 ½ inch block of (any fabric, any color) with your name on it any way you choose. Bring it to the February meeting and give to Sandy E.
The planning of the quilt show is coming along nicely. Bookmarks and flyers will be available soon. We signed up to deliver them to various quilt shops in the surrounding area in April. If you have a favorite quilt shop you would like to HAVE to visit, see Brenda H to sign-up for quilt show flyer delivery. ALSO, there will be a Make and Take It and the committee needs all of our help to pull it off. They are in need of many different sorts of fibers and yarns (eye lash yarn for example) and they will take any colors. Go through your stash and bring in any skeins, parts of skeins, or pieces (at least 2 yds. Long) and give to Sandy E.
The Library in Port Clinton will be the recipient of a percentage (to be determined later) of sales of tickets for the raffle quilt. They have also committed to have the raffle quilt hang in the library until the quilt show. The Library will also hang other quilts during the month of March (National Quilt Month). Let Peggy H know if you would like to have a quilt hung at the library in the month of March.
The Mystery Workshop will be Sat. February 27th from 9 am to 1 pm. It will be a brown bag lunch with coffee, tea, and dessert provided. Quilt Dimensions and fabric requirements:

You can get some cutting
