As the membership grew, the group sponsored its first quilt show at the American Legion Hall in Port Clinton in 1982. Another show followed in 1984. The Guild has supported many worthy causes in the area over its history and will continue to do so in the future. Some of the recipients of the Guild’s generosity include, The Ida Rupp Library, The Riverview School in Oak Harbor, The Oak Harbor Library, The Ottawa County Fair, the Port Clinton Police Department, Heartbeat of Ottawa County, The Ottawa County Courthouse, The Ruth Ann House, and the Ronald McDonald House in Toledo. In 2004 the Guild once again sponsored a Quilt Show to help promote quilting in the area as well as increase the number of contributions to the community. The Guild expects this to be a bi-ennial event. The Guild also provides quilt classes to its membership as well as the public. From time to time, the Guild will bring in well known quilters from around the country to give presentations and classes to its membership and the public. In March of every year, to both promote and celebrate National Quilt Day, the Guild sponsors classes or demonstrations for those interested in supporting the art of quilting. |
